Miniature Photography

Miniature photography is an art form where small object/figurines are use to tell stories in a creative and experimentation ways.

For me, I enjoy building a world for the subjects to live in and I mostly use single source lighting to create a more theatrical mood to the composition.

"Chilling Winter" Miniature Photography, Darith Beng.

In this image, small pieces of candle wax were use to create snow like texture for the ground. Using single light source with a warm tone, create a cozy feeling due to its contrast with the cold snowy atmosphere. Our main subject are these small figurines birds gather around for warmth and company.

In this image, it holds a little bit more of a different story. A clear blood trail was made using food color red dye, and we see that the blood leads our eyes to the bear in the background. The blood drips all over the birds, this gives the viewer some level of storytelling to the composition.

"Lettuce River" Miniature Photography, Darith.

The figurines of the bird on a boat is our main subjects, surrounded by these lettuces tree like that grows along the river. The river was created using a reflective sheet with a little bit of ripple. All of these different element together create a world for the subject to live in. A warm single light source was use to create a more moody and theatrical tone to the overall image.
